Brandy Harris
Chief Executive Officer
Brandy Harris is a passionate leader and devoted advocate for young people. As the first female and first person of color to serve as CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Springfield, she has transformed the organization through bold leadership, innovative programming, and an unshakable belief in the potential of every child.
Brandy began her professional career in 2008 as a high school teacher at her alma mater, Hillcrest High School. She joined the Boys & Girls Club movement in 2011 in Lawrence, Kansas, and has since served in nearly every role—from frontline youth development professional to executive leadership. After returning to Springfield in 2013, Brandy led programming and operations across multiple units before assuming the role of CEO.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in speech communication from Drury University and a master’s in early childhood education and family development from Missouri State University. Brandy also holds numerous certifications, including Mental Health First Aid and various designations through Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
Under her leadership, BGCS has launched new Club locations, expanded reach, secured millions in grant and philanthropic funding, and led a successful $12 million capital campaign to build Springfield’s first-ever teen center. Her innovative approach has garnered widespread recognition, including being named 2023 Executive of the Year by BGCA TPA, 2024 CEO of the Year by Springfield Business Journal, and induction into the Springfield Public Schools Hall of Fame.
Brandy’s commitment to equitable access to opportunity extends into the community through service on boards and advisory councils including the Mayor’s Commission for Children.
Raised in poverty and instability, Brandy’s journey is a testament to the power of mentorship, safe spaces, and self-expression. In 2024, she debuted her first solo art exhibition, using painting to explore themes of trauma, identity, and resilience. She lives in Springfield with her beloved shih tzu, Murray, and finds joy in creating art, writing poetry, jamming in the car with her nieces, cooking, playing board games, and spending time with family and friends.
She believes deeply in the words she shares often: Remember who and why you are.
