Supporting Great Futures with CHAR Steakhouse
On Monday, April 17, over 100 members of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Springfield took part in the sixth annual 'Good CHARacter Dinner', an annual dinner celebrating youth academic success hosted by restaurateur and business owner Mike Jalili, owner of Flame Steakhouse, Black Sheep Burgers and Shakes and CHAR Steakhouse.
Members were invited to an evening at CHAR Steakhouse based on the criteria of achieving either straight A's for the school year, improving two grades by a full level, or improving one grade by two levels. Additionally, members were required to participate in at least 10 hours of community service.
"As a key component of our operation, we work hard to help kids bridge academic gaps," said Brandy Harris, CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Springfield. "I am so proud of our Club members. They have been working so hard this year. And this week, we were able to recognize some of our Club members for their commitment to academic success.
The event included a buffet, speeches from Harris, Jalili, as well as 2023 BGCS Youth of the Year Tyvon Huddleston. Additionally, one member of each BGCS unit was given special recognition which included a Certificate of Most Improved, presented to each winner by Jalili.
"We are so thankful for our partnership with CHAR and Mike Jalili! They made the night so special and memorable for our Club members!"
This was the sixth year the Good CHARacter Dinner has been held, returning from a three-year hiatus during the years of 2020 through 2022. The event was formally recognized as the TOUCHdown Dinners. Forty adult guests, including parents, donors, and board members.
