Thank you to everyone who attended the 36th Annual Sertoma Chili Cook-Off!

Chili Cook Off Thank You 2017On behalf of our 2,500 youth members, staff and board of directors, I want to say thanks. The 36th Annual Sertoma Chili Cook-off was a rousing success. To the hundreds of volunteers and thousands in attendance at this year’s event held on February 24th and 25th, we want to thank you for helping to make this event a great success. Special recognition goes out to our sponsors, the talented musicians who performed that day and of course the true stars of the event, our cooks.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Springfield benefits in many ways from the Chili Cook-Off proceeds. Funding includes replacement for a 20+ year old van and other aging vehicle improvements. The BGCS takes pride in offering mental health services to members at no cost to their families, something that the Cook-Off helps fund as well. Additionally, programs such as job training for high school members, a variety of sports programming, technology upgrades, and outreach for teens are funded by this event. The newest addition of the Clubs is the Sertoma Unit, attached to Sherwood Elementary School. It has been a great success since its opening in 2015, and receives a great deal of funding as well from the Sertoma Chili Cook-Off.

Special thanks goes out to the Sertoma Club members. Sertoma Club’s motto is Service to Mankind. The Springfield area Sertoma Clubs is rooted in the belief that a group of individuals can be a powerful force for youth development change. The Sertoma Clubs can be credited with implementing changes and improving conditions in almost every sector of our community by their continued support of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Springfield’s core programs. These dedicated individuals have pooled their collective energies and resources for almost eighty years to make the Boys & Girls Clubs of Springfield one of the premier youth service organizations.

The members of the Sertoma Clubs have made an impact on this community by their dedication and many countless volunteer hours. They truly have made a difference and have made this community a better place to live and work and have great futures. I am very proud to be a part of Sertoma and wish them much success always.

Thank you,

Patrick Gartland

Executive Director
