Youth of the Year Program

Established in 1947, Youth of the Year is our premier recognition program celebrating outstanding Club members who demonstrate service to Club, community and family, academic success, strong moral character, life goals, poise and public speaking ability. Youth of the Year is the highest honor a Boys & Girls Club member can receive and gives members the recognition they deserve.

As the 2016 Youth of the Year for Boys & Girls Clubs of Springfield, Raven is a true example of an extraordinary young woman recognized by Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) for her sound character, leadership skills and willingness to give back to the community.

Raven is a senior at Central High School and has been a member of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Springfield, Stalnaker Unit for 13 years. Some of her activities at the Club include; President of the Keystone Club (a leadership group club), Torch Club, Project Learn, Peer-to-Peer mentoring, park and street clean-ups, and many more. She also volunteers at The Kitchen as a way to give back to her community. Raven is a caring, determined, hard-working individual who is always willing to lend a hand to those in need.

As Youth of the Year Raven was awarded a $12,000 college scholarship funded by the BGC Partners in Education. This fall she will be attending the University of Missouri and pursing a degree in nursing, specializing in neonatal intensive care.
