Youth of the Year Program

Aleah Woodmansee

Aleah Woodmansee, member of the Henderson Unit of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Springfield, has been selected as the Club’s 2010 Youth of the Year. Administered by Boys & Girls Clubs of America (B&GCA), the Youth of the Year program recognizes superior leadership skills, academic achievement, obstacles overcome and outstanding service to Boys & Girls Clubs and the community.

Aleah Woodmansee is a 17-year-old Junior at Central High School.  Aleah is involved in FCCLA, soccer, and tennis.  She has also been a part of choir.  Aleah plans to attend college after graduation and is interested in cooking and the arts.

Aleah is active at the Boys & Girls Club and in the community.  She is the Keystone Club President and is involved in Triple Play, Club Tech, Stay SMART, Citigroup, Goals for Graduation, Career Launch, Digital Arts, and much more.  Aleah’s commitment to the community can be seen when she helps recycle and pick up trash at the park and on the Club’s adopted street.  Aleah was in charge of a canned food drive in 2009, and because of her leadership the drive resulted in 3,650 cans of food being collected to hand out to those in need.

As the Youth of the Year winner, Aleah Woodmansee is a positive role model for today’s young people. Aleah will receive a $12,000 College Scholarship, funded by our Springfield Boys and Girls Club Auxiliary.  She will also serve as the spokesperson for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Springfield in 2010.  As the 2010 Youth of the Year winner, Aleah will now compete at the State Youth of the Year competition to be held in Jefferson City on March 30th.
