Meet Tyra
A three year member of the Musgrave Unit of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Springfield, Tyra Moore is active.
Besides excelling in sports, including basketball, soccer and flag football, she is a member of the Take Charge Torch Club at the Musgrave Unit. The Torch Club is group that provides character and leadership opportunities. “Torch Club teaches you to help the community and be a better person,” Tyra said.
At least twice a month with the Torch Club, you can find her cleaning up Park Avenue in front of the Musgrave Unit Boys & Girls Club or cleaning out the Jordan Valley stream. Tyra has also helped clean Sequiota Park’s caves and walking trails.
Also, she helped collect pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House, rang the bell for the Salvation Army, and sold concessions to benefit the Children’s Miracle Network. Plus, Tyra helped collect food and other items for five adopted families during the Christmas holiday.
She has impressed several of the staff with her personal character and her giving spirit in the past year. Tyra is quick to follow through with many projects that she is asked to start. As a result, Club staff have nominated Tyra for the Gift of Time Award.
Tyra is not only really involved in helping her community; she is also a very good student, typically keeping A’s and B’s in all of her classes. On the playing field, she has a competitive spirit, but also knows understands teamwork.
In the future, Tyra plans on going to college and playing college basketball and then her plans are becoming a professional basketball player.
